Le naufrage

The shipwreck…

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for Allah (SWT) to rescue him, and everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. “Allah, how could you do this to me!” he cried. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going badly. But we shouldn’t lose heart, because Allah (SWT) is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground (i.e. things are going badly for you), it may just be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of Allah (SWT).

Le seul survivant d'un naufrage a été emporté sur une petite île inhabitée. Il priait fébrilement Allah Ta’ala pour son salut. Il scrutait l’horizon nuit et jour mais ne trouvait aucune aide. Epuisé, il a finalement réussi à bâtir une petite hutte à partir des morceaux de bois qui flottaient pour se protéger des intempéries et pour conserver quelques biens. Mais un jour, il parti à la recherche de nourriture et à son retour il trouva sa petite hutte en flammes, la fumée s’élevant dans le ciel. Le pire était arrivé. Tout a été perdu. Il était empli de chagrin et de colère. "Allah, comment peux-tu me faire ça ?! " Il a pleuré… Tôt le lendemain, il a été réveillée par le bruit d'un bateau qui approchait de l'île. Il était venu à son secours. "Comment saviez-vous que j’étais ici?" demanda à l'homme à ses sauveurs. "Nous avons vu votre signal de fumée", ont-ils répondu.

Il est facile de se décourager quand les choses vont mal. Mais nous ne devrions pas perdre espoir, car Allah (SWT) est à l'œuvre dans nos vies, même au milieu de la douleur et de la souffrance. N'oubliez pas, la prochaine fois que votre petite hutte brûle au sol (c'est-à-dire que les choses vont mal pour vous), il peut juste s'agir d'un signal de fumée qui appellera la Grâce d'Allah Ta’ala.
